About

My name is Lang.
I found bookbinding later in life, and after years of looking.
& I found my passion ~

Education

I first studied bookbinding under Edwin Heim, at the Centro del bel libro (Ascona, Switzerland). There I met a student of the American Academy of Bookbinding (Telluride, Colorado) — she encouraged me to enroll at the academy, I did. I began the ‘Fine Binding Program’ under Tini Miura, and finished under Monique Lallier. I graduated with a diploma in Fine Binding at the Guild of BookWorkers ‘Standards of Excellence’ Seminar (2007). Since that time, I have taken advantage of numerous workshops and intensives in bookbinding that round out my skills and knowledge. I have worked with Betsy Eldridge, Hélène Jolis, Don Glaister, Peter Geraty, Gabrielle Fox, Luigi Castiglioni, Julia Miller, and Renate Mesmer — to all of whom I owe tremendous thanks, as they cannot imagine their influence. Twice now I have taken extended visits to the atelier of Ana Ruiz-Larrea (Paris). Paris is dreamy for me, and the techniques learned in Ana’s atelier continue to influence my binding every day.

My work can be found in private collections and public institutions in the United States.
